Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones recently spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about the fan theory which suggests that Jaime will be the one who kills his twin sister/lover Cersei Lannister. Coster-Waldau admitted to have heard the theory and said that it makes sense for his character to kill Cersei after the events of season 6:
“I heard that theory, and it absolutely makes sense. It would be a perfect little nod. But who knows? You’ll have to watch the show [laughs]. It’s a good theory. I always thought maybe it’s too neat, but who knows.”
In an another interview with Mashable, he reiterated similar thoughts:
“I mean I don’t think he — I’m just saying it’s a valid theory. I can see it makes sense, it has a beautiful — it’s a nice circle [that] they are born together in the womb and then he kills her at the end…It makes sense.”
Jaime had to kill the Mad King after he was threatening mass genocide. Could Cersei’s similar actions act as a motivation for Jaime?
“You could say that could — that the motivation for doing that would be the same for killing Cersei, but I haven’t seen anything yet before Season 7 that would make me believe that he was capable of doing that.”
Could we see it happening in season 7? Coster-Waldau adds:
“I don’t know. Well, I do, but you’ll have to watch the show.”
